House Of Wax

from Zetacarnosa by Skyscape

/

about

Jed:
"House of Wax" is the last song Dom and I completed before Dom took a hiatus from Skyscape in early 1995. Ironically, Skyscape never performed the song with Dom - we didn't add it to the set until a year after his departure.

Dom:
I remember writing the lyrics for this song in college, and trying too hard to get something going with this whole world of dead visitation; a lot of Melville went into this song. We never recorded this, and I like the music for it a lot. This was when I was getting serious about not flunking or doing shitty in school, and did not want to practice much. I also hated Sean and Steve for the most part, as far as "hate" meant - getting along with them in their quasi-prog-rock L.I. fame-and-glory goofing. They liked Dream Theater. Can you imagine? I had to get out. Jed began to not like me. Suspecting burnout symptoms in me and infidelity to the band, can't blame him....He might have known about the Formula 44 stunt in the Saturn or not. House of Wax - "Here's looking at you son / A part of the half, a sum of the whole" and some other garbled paradox toying - a little too grunge rock - and I'm glad that was when my vocal style began leaving the scrubland territories of deep-singing rock rasp - spurious punk poking.

lyrics

Here's looking at you, son
A part of the half, a sum of the whole
Where two and two make one
We all stand still in catatonic love

House of wax, mold your ego
I bring all the bodies there
They all stare, but no one cares

House of wax, mold you ego
The matter of mind, the matter of facts
The main attraction in the house of wax

Here's looking at you, son
A part of the half, a sum of the whole
Where two and two make one
We all stand still in catatonic love

In a world where nobody mocks me
The wax opus fulfilled my fix
But I won't come 'til I know
That I'm all alone, blinking in bliss

Here's looking at you, son
A part of the half, a sum of the whole
Where two and two make one
We all stand still in catatonic love

The matter of mind, the matter of facts
The main attraction in the house of wax
Here's looking at you, son
